With the LUMIX S 20-60mm lens, Panasonic has set out to offer photographers and videographers a lens that covers both ultra wide angle fields of view, as well as short portraits. The result is a lens that covers both so well that only one lens is needed, rather than two, lightening overall load and streamlining workflow by eliminating the need to constantly change lenses. The 20-60mm also incorporates a minimum focusing distance of just 5.9”, making it a contender for still life photography as well.

Pro-level design at consumer friendly price

The LUMIX S 20-60mm lens has all of the design elements of a professional-level lens. Designed with 11 elements in 9 groups, with 2 aspherical lenses and 3 Extra-low Dispersion (ED) elements, the 20-60mm nearly eliminates chromatic aberration and astigmatism, meaning less post work to achieve the best optical performance. Lens quality and performance is consistent from the center to the edges of the frame thanks to this high quality combination, yet the price is not in the $2000+ range traditionally associated with a lens of this design.

Rugged design

The LUMIX S 20-60mm is not meant to be babied. In fact, it’s got many of the seals and weather protection features of the pro-level lenses. Gaskets and seals make it dust- and splash-resistant, and allows it to to work in temperatures as low as 14 degrees. Panasonic has also included a fluorine coating on the front element which is designed to help repel water and oil, helping to keep the lens clean even in harsh conditions.

L-Mount Alliance Lenses

The LUMIX S 20-60mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens is proudly part of the L-Mount Alliance. Developed by Leica camera, the L-Mount is the beginning of a new alliance between Leica, Sigma, and Panasonic. With a mount diameter of 51.6mm, the L-Mount lenses are suitable for cameras with either full frame or APS-C sensors, and both are compatible. Featuring four tabs to keep the L-Mount lenses from tilting and ensuring tight coupling of camera and lens, as well as a short flange distance of only 20mm, L-Mount lenses from any of the partners will stay optically sharp and consistent no matter what body they are used on.
