Description
The Leica 50mm APO-Summicron-SL ASPH Lens is the result of a blending of over a century of passion for photography with the latest technological advancements in optical design. This unique approach and combination of resources has created a focal length that gets closest to what is naturally perceived by the human eye and offers the highest detail rendition possible. The Leica 50mm f/2 APO-Summicron-SL ASPH is perfectly matched to the Leica SL-System, but as part of the L-Mount system will also mate well with cameras from Panasonic and Sigma.
Unparalleled Construction and Optical Performance

The Leica 50mm APO-Summicron-SL ASPH is particularly incredible in large part because of its 12-element optical system that uses the absolute latest manufacturing technology by Leica. Three elements with four aspherical surfaces are used to correct monochromatic aberration, while eight elements manufactured from specially formulated optics ensure chromatic correction throughout the entire focusing range. These elements are what make it possible to correct for chromatic aberrations with such perfection, resulting in the sharpest images imaginable with highlights that are almost completely free of color fringing.
Higher Contrast for Greater Visual Depth

Many of the same optical technologies in the 50mm APO-Summicron_SL ASPH that allow for the elimination of color fringing also contribute to a significantly higher contrast value. The area of highest contrast is incredibly sharp, while zones with lower contrast are beautifully out of focus, creating a purposeful direction toward the intended subject. This contrast level is considerably higher than previously designed camera lenses, so the difference between the subject and background creates a three-dimensional effect like never before.
AF System with Dual Syncro Drive

Teams of optical, mechanical, and electrical engineers worked together at Leica to develop a unique double internal focusing system for the 50mm APO-Summicron-SL ASPH Lens. The system uses lightweight focusing lenses, which allows for smaller drive systems and a decrease in the weight of the lens, while simultaneously increasing the speed of focus. By using complex calculations based on contrast, the lenses move in conjunction with one another, allowing the speed of movement from infinity to the closest focusing distance in the shortest time possible.
L-Mount Alliance Lenses
The 50mm f/2 APO-Summicron-SL ASPH Lens is proudly part of the L-Mount Alliance. Developed by Leica camera, the L-Mount is the beginning of a new alliance between Leica, Sigma, and Panasonic. With a mount diameter of 51.6mm, the L-Mount lenses are suitable for cameras with either full frame or APS-C sensors, and both are compatible. Featuring four tabs to keep the L-Mount lenses from tilting and ensuring tight coupling of camera and lens, as well as a short flange distance of only 20mm, L-Mount lenses from any of the partners will stay optically sharp and consistent no matter what body they are used on.
