Lane Peters, local Salt Lake photographer and videographer is hosting an exciting event in just a few short months, in association with Profoto, Canon, Nikon and pictureline. To get some more information for you outdoors enthusiasts, we spoke with Lane to learn more!
What is the Adventure Photography Series?
The Adventure Photography Series is a set of workshops that teaches skills to help capture better, more meaningful images of outdoor activities. The next workshop is the climbing and outdoor portrait workshop in St. George, UT. This course focuses on climbing photography and will have professional climbers working with photographers throughout the event.
What's the Climbing and Outdoor Portrait Workshop all about?
This workshop is all about how to get the right shot. It's completely hands on, rigging for rope ascension and camera hauling will be part of the experience. In addition, camera bodies, lenses and lighting tools will be available from Canon, Nikon and Profoto. Evenings will include Photoshop editing techniques as well as a critique.
What skills should participants expect to learn from this workshop?
This course covers a wide variety of techniques from setup to post work. Camera settings will be discussed as well as lens choice and lighting techniques. Evenings will include Camera RAW development and Photoshop tips. Rope skills will also be a part of the workshop. We've kept this class small on purpose (limited to 12) so that each person will have plenty of time to practice the technique covered during the course.
Is there any software post-workflow involved?
A couple of the nights will be spent practicing RAW editing techniques on participant's own images. To get the most out of the course, students will need to supply their own laptop with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Bridge installed.
How much experience should a participant have prior to taking this workshop?
Interest in the outdoors is a huge plus! Beyond that, a basic understanding of the manual controls of their camera is very beneficial. Some climbing experience is recommended but not necessary. If you're new to photography, don't worry, we'll be covering a lot of in-camera basics during the event.
What's included in the cost?
Meals during the course are included starting with dinner on Thursday, May 7th, ending with lunch on Saturday, May 9th. It is recommended that you bring your own camera, but lenses and lighting equipment will be available to use from Nikon, Canon and Profoto.
